To inspire hiking and exploration of our natural areas, Washtenaw County invites you to our first virtual Preserve Challenge. For the month of September, we challenge you to dedicate time to explore nature once a week. More visits are always encouraged and can be inspired by following #ExploreWashtenaw on social media.
Your goals are yours to set – incorporate nature into your weekly routine, build endurance by adding miles, or discover new places through trails. Experience also the many health benefits associated with spending time in nature including reducing stress, improving immune system, boosting problem-solving skills, and more!
During the Preserve Challenge, capture your experience with a photo. Every week you submit a photo, you will be entered into a random drawing to win a prize. If you enter a photo or video every week, you will be entered in a final drawing for a grand prize at the end of the month. You can submit photos through the Facebook event page, or tag @washtenawcountyparks on Instagram with #ExploreWashtenaw. If social media is not for you, feel free to email your photos to email@example.com with “Explore Washtenaw” in the subject line.
Want to expand your outdoorsy community? Join us on a hike! Washtenaw County parks staff are offering hiking opportunities throughout the month. These hikes will range in difficulty and will build familiarity with the trails, habitats, and natural resources. Events include sunset strolls on weekday evenings or longer hikes requiring sturdy shoes and drinking water on the weekend. Prefer your own company? That’s fine too – you can still be a part of the challenge by hiking on your own and sharing your experience. Choose your own adventure!
The outdoors belong to us all. Use this month to find your own path and strengthen your connection to the natural world. We look forward to you joining us on this journey!
