Juvenile Detention Program

About Us

The Washtenaw County Youth Center provides temporary custody and care for juveniles in a safe and security setting. Youth are placed pre-adjudication, awaiting a judge's determination of whether or not a delinquent offense has been committed. The Youth Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 365 days per year.

Additional information on the Detention Program can be found in the Orientation Manual.

Balanced and Restorative Justice

  • Accountability to victims and community: When an individual commits an offense, the offender incurs an obligation to individual victims and the community.
  • Youth competency development: Offenders who enter the juvenile justice system should be more capable when they leave than when they entered.
  • Community safety: Juvenile justice has a responsibility to protect the public from juveniles in the system.
