The Emergency Services Division provides leadership for two critical public safety functions: Emergency Operations and Metro Dispatch. Although these two units operate independently, during crisis situations in the community they work collaboratively to coordinate the overall response.
Washtenaw County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is located on the lower level of the Sheriff's Office headquarters on Hogback Road. The center includes the EOC operations room where designated officials meet during escalating or declared community emergencies. The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is where division staff and trained volunteers coordinate radio communications and initiate public warnings, and the backup 9-1-1 emergency Center. Combine that with the oversight of 911 Dispatch and you have a comprehensive emergency services division.
Washtenaw County Sheriff Emergency Services in conjunction with the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac is offering Skywarn Spotter training free of charge to anyone 18 years of age or older who is interested in being trained in severe weather identification, protection, and reporting procedures.
